Remove Duplicate Songs from Spotify Playlists on PC

Thanks to the hard work of some developers, there are several different programs online that will remove the duplicates from your device for free. For instance, you can check Spotify Dedup – a web tool that you can access from any browser on a PC but also via a mobile device.

Navigate to the site in question and click the Log in with Spotify button. Input your account/email and password.

Allow the program to scan your playlists. Depending on the number of playlists associated with your account, you may need to wait a few seconds.

Spotify Dedup will now list only the playlists that feature duplicates. The duplicate songs/podcast episodes will be listed underneath the playlist’s name. Review the results and then press the Remove duplicates from the playlist button to remove them.

That’s it! Now, you’ll see a message letting you know that duplicates have been removed. Continue with the next one, if you want.

Remove Duplicate Songs from Spotify Playlists on Mobile

If you’d rather have a dedicated mobile app on your phone to help you with this task, you can go ahead and install Virtual Shuffle on your device. Unfortunately, this is only available on Android and not iOS.

Log into Spotify with your account and allow notifications to go through if prompted. Once on the app’s main interface, select the option to Remove Duplicates.

Search for a playlist that you suspect might contain duplicates. Tap on it and let the app do its thing. It will soon remove the duplicates (if any) from your playlist. You are then free to continue to the next playlist.

Virtual Shuffle also boasts other features such as the ability to import/export playlists, find tracks, combine playlists, and includes a smart shuffle option.

FYI: check these free music download apps for Android and iOS, so you can listen straight from your mobile device.

Remove Spotify Playlist Duplicates Manually

If your playlists tend to be shorter, you can always manually delete the duplicates from your playlists. Of course, this is not a good idea if you have playlists featuring thousands of songs or podcast episodes.

Open your Spotify desktop client and look on the left side of your display. You’ll see the Your Library section.

Select the Playlist tab to bring up your playlists.

Choose a playlist that might have duplicates. Browse the playlist until you find a duplicate song. Alternatively, click on the Artist or Album tabs at the top. Any duplicates should stack together, although different albums sometimes have the same songs.

Delete the duplicates by clicking on the three dots next to the song and pressing on the Remove from this playlist option. Now proceed to delete the next duplicate to clean up your playlist.

While you can remove duplicates from a Spotify playlist via the mobile app, you don’t have the option to categorize them based on song or title. You’ll have to browse the playlist and identify any duplicates on your own.

If you stumble upon one, tap the three dots next to one version of the song.

Select Remove from playlist from the menu that pops up from the bottom.
